Growth That Works for Milwaukie

Will believes Milwaukie has legalized density without legalizing livability. Growth should add to our community, not diminish it. The city needs to do more to encourage the kind of growth that makes Milwaukie more livable.

WHAT Will WILL DO AS Mayor:

  • Legalize the growth Milwaukie actually wants by expanding mixed-use zoning so developers are rewarded for building the kinds of places residents want to live in.

  • Use financial incentives to encourage better development, ground floor commercial, green space, community amenities, and design that contributes to neighborhood character rather than diminishing it.

  • Protect and expand green space as we grow by requiring new developments to contribute to Milwaukie's parks, tree canopy, and open space goals.

  • Empower neighborhoods to shape their own vision so residents have a real voice in what gets built near them and growth feels like something happening with the community, not to it.

WILL'S TRACK RECORD:

  • Opened up new corridors for the walkable, mixed-use growth Milwaukie actually wants by supporting the Neighborhood Hubs Phase 2 code amendments, expanding where vibrant, commercially active neighborhoods can take root across the city.

  • Protected Milwaukie's urban canopy by championing a stronger tree code that ensures new development contributes to our green infrastructure rather than clearing it away.

  • Listened to a community vision for growth neighborhood by neighborhood through a series of town halls across Milwaukie, putting residents in the driver's seat on what the city's future looks like block by block.
