PRIORITY
Housing Milwaukie Can Afford
Milwaukie can't be the community we love unless people can actually afford to live here — renters, families, first-time buyers, and anyone putting down roots in this city.
WHAT Will WILL DO AS Mayor:
Build more homes at every price point, cutting the red tape and permitting delays that slow down construction and drive up costs for everyone.
Make homeownership attainable for more Milwaukians by partnering with local credit unions to offer 0% down payment options for residents who want to put down roots here.
Lower the cost of building affordable housing through tax incentives and low-interest construction loans that make projects financially viable for nonprofit developers.
Launch Milwaukie's first social housing pilot; building homes on city-owned land, using proceeds from sales to acquire the next site, and building again. A revolving fund that keeps delivering affordability without relying on the market alone to get it done.
Make it easier to build condos and family-sized units by legalizing single-stair construction and adding incentives so developers can build the homes Milwaukie actually needs.
WILL'S TRACK RECORD:
Banned private equity corporations from competing with Milwaukie families for homes by authoring Oregon legislation blocking mega-corporations from bidding against individual homebuyers.
Championed Milwaukie's Affordable Housing Code, creating financial incentives that make it easier and cheaper for nonprofit developers to build income-restricted housing here.
Fought to bring 22 affordable homeownership units to Milwaukie through the Sparrow site development.
Helped secure $1.5 million in state grant funding to build the infrastructure needed for Hillside Phase II and 165 more affordable, income-restricted units.
